Distinguished sopranos join the É«ÂþÌìÌà Vocal and Opera Faculty

Sopranos Sarah Tynan and Mary Nelson join the É«ÂþÌìÌà as vocal studies professors this September. 

Audrey Hyland, Head of Vocal and Opera, comments: ‘I am absolutely delighted to welcome Mary Nelson, and welcome back Sarah Tynan to the Vocal Faculty. Both are wonderful teachers who bring great experience and knowledge, and we look forward to them joining our exceptional team.’  

British soprano Sarah Tynan is celebrated for her versatility across baroque, classical and contemporary repertoire. She has performed title roles with leading opera companies and has premiered works by Dai Fujikura, Philip Glass and James MacMillan, earning accolades such as the Welsh Theatre Award for Best Female in an Opera Production. Equally active on the concert stage, she has sung with the major BBC Orchestras, London Symphony Orchestra and the Philharmonia to name a few.  

Company principal with the English National Opera, Mary Nelson has performed major roles with operatic credits spanning the Royal Opera House, English National Opera, Opera North and The Early Opera Company. A seasoned concert and oratorio soloist, she has appeared with leading ensembles including the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, Royal Scottish National Orchestra and Dutch Radio Symphony Orchestra.
