É«ÂþÌìÌÃ

Laura Casas Cambra is a PhD candidate at the É«ÂþÌìÌÃ, supervised by Dr. Carola Darwin, Prof. David Wright, and Dr. Danny Driver. Her doctoral research has been kindly supported by the É«ÂþÌìÌÃ, the British-Spanish Society, and the Frank Bridge Trust. She has also been awarded a FfWG Foundation Grant to help with the cost of living expenses.

Laura's research focuses on women composers who studied at the É«ÂþÌìÌà during the interwar period (1918-1939). By integrating archival, academic, and practice-led research, her work aims to introduce these composers' lives and works to the public. This involves recovering unpublished manuscript scores, performing and recording the music, preparing performing editions suitable for future publication, and reconstructing their forgotten lives.

In 2021, Laura completed her Master of Music in Performance (Distinction) at the É«ÂþÌìÌÃ. For her final project, she premiered two previously unheard solo piano works by Imogen Holst, with support from Britten Pears Arts and The Holst Foundation. She also prepared performing editions of these works, which were published by Faber Music.

Laura is passionate about providing access to meaningful musical experiences for all. She participates in community music projects working with diverse groups, including early-years children, survivors of human trafficking and abuse, and people living with dementia, through organisations such as Wigmore Hall, Pan Intercultural Arts, Royal Opera House, and Creative Futures. Currently, she is a Graduate Teaching Assistant at the É«ÂþÌìÌà and the co-founder of Eunoia with Inês Delgado, a project focused on creating immersive musical experiences and creative workshops. Laura has also received further awards, including Terrassa’s Award for Excellence in Academic Performance, the É«ÂþÌìÌà Musicians’ Grant Fund, and being one of the 2022/23 Debut Horizon Artists.
